Does your role and evidence fit the employee route?
Foreign software developers, systems analysts, database specialists, network professionals and other qualifying ICT employees planning to live and work in Georgia.
- actual duties within ISCO-08 group 25
- two years of relevant IT employment
- USD 25,000 preceding-year income
- two payments at least 30 days apart
- employer-led work-right and residence sequence
The short answer
An employed IT professional may qualify when the actual role falls within ISCO-08 group 25 and the employee can prove at least two years of relevant work, USD 25,000 equivalent qualifying income in the preceding year and the required payment pattern. The residence application must also be coordinated with the employer-led Georgian right-to-work process.
The employee route is narrower than ‘working in tech’. We check the actual ISCO-08 occupation, two-year professional record, preceding-year income and employer-led work-right sequence before building the residence file.
The employee must work in a qualifying ICT profession
The employee route is built around ISCO-08 group 25. It covers roles such as systems analysts, software developers, web and multimedia developers, applications programmers, database designers and administrators, systems administrators, network professionals and related ICT specialists when the real duties fit the selected occupation.
- The commercial job title is not decisive; daily duties and responsibility are.
- Product, project, sales and general management roles do not become eligible simply because the employer is an IT company.
- The Georgian employer, employment contract and selected occupation must describe the same position.
- A contractor or Georgian IE uses a different applicant profile and evidence set.
The file must prove two years of IT work and the preceding-year income test
The employee normally needs at least two years in total of relevant IT employment or economic activity and at least USD 25,000 equivalent qualifying income received during the preceding year. The income record must show at least two payments separated by 30 days.
- Employer reference letters, previous contracts, tax or social-insurance records and project evidence can support the professional history.
- Use payroll certificates and bank statements to show when and from whom the income was received.
- Connect the income to qualifying IT work; unexplained credits or unrelated income do not establish the test.
- Where several employers or countries are involved, prepare a short chronology and payment schedule.
The Georgian employer normally completes the work-right step first
The right to work and the IT Residence Permit are separate decisions. The employer normally manages the employee work-right application, including any vacancy or exemption analysis, and the approved decision or code is then used in the residence process where required by the current rules.
- Confirm the vacancy procedure or a documented exception before fixing the start date.
- Use one consistent role in the vacancy, contract, work-right application, payroll and residence evidence.
- Coordinate the approval with the employee’s lawful stay and the applicable residence filing deadline.
- A change of employer or materially different position may require a new work-right decision and a residence review.
Start with the facts; formal documents can follow in the right order
For an initial assessment, send the passport, proposed Georgian employer and contract, a plain-language description of the role, two-year work history and a summary of the preceding year’s salary payments. We identify which foreign records need certified Georgian translation or legalisation after the route is confirmed.
- Passport and current location or Georgian lawful-stay details.
- Draft employment contract and detailed job description.
- CV plus available employer references, contracts or qualification records.
- Preceding-year payroll certificate and bank-payment summary.
- Spouse and child details if linked family residence is planned.
What to send us first
Send the proposed role and the records already available. We check the occupation, experience, income and employer-led work-right sequence before asking for translations or additional certificates.

resolve the 2026 right-to-work position

How this may look in a real case
A software engineer employed by a Georgian company proves the real duties, professional history, contract, payroll and work-right decision. The words ‘software engineer’ on a business card are not enough by themselves.
What can slow the process down
We check these points at the beginning and flag gaps before filing, so you can correct them while there is still time.
- A broad job title is used without showing the daily duties within the accepted ICT profession.
- Previous work and income records are supplied without a clear two-year chronology or payment schedule.
- The employer begins the residence file before checking the vacancy, exception and work-right route.
- The contract, work-right application, payroll and residence file describe different positions.
- A new employer or role is accepted before its effect on the work-right decision and residence basis is reviewed.
A clear recommendation and a managed Georgian process
We work with the employee and Georgian employer to confirm the occupation, prove the professional and income tests, complete the work-right sequence and prepare the residence application.

Frequently asked questions
Which employed IT professionals can qualify for Georgia’s IT Residence Permit?
The employee route uses ISCO-08 group 25 ICT professions. It can include systems analysts, software and applications developers, database specialists, systems administrators and network professionals when the actual duties fit the selected occupation.
Is my IT job title enough to qualify?
No. The authority looks at the real duties and evidence. The job description, employment contract, employer confirmation, qualifications, work-right file and payroll should support the same qualifying ICT role.
How much IT experience does an employee need?
The current route requires at least two years in total of relevant IT employment or economic activity. The period can be supported by employer references, contracts, tax or social-insurance records, project evidence and other reliable records.
What is the USD 25,000 income requirement for an IT employee?
The employee normally needs at least USD 25,000 equivalent qualifying income during the preceding year. It must be connected to qualifying IT work and supported by payroll and bank records rather than an unexplained balance or unrelated income.
Why are two salary payments required?
The preceding-year evidence must show at least two qualifying receipts separated by at least 30 days. A payment schedule linking the employer, contract, payroll certificate and bank credits makes the timing clear.
Does the Georgian employer apply for the employee’s right to work?
Normally yes. The Georgian employer manages the employee work-right application and any vacancy or exception evidence. The work-right decision and IT residence application are separate but must be planned together.
Can I start work before the Georgian work-right decision?
Do not assume so. The employer should confirm whether approval, registration or a current exemption applies before the start date. Visa-free entry and a pending residence application do not by themselves authorise work.
What documents should an IT employee send first?
Send the passport, proposed contract, detailed job description, CV and available experience records, plus a summary of preceding-year salary payments. We identify which documents need certified Georgian translation or legalisation after reviewing the route.
What happens if I change Georgian employer or IT role?
A new employer or materially different position can require a new work-right decision and may affect the residence basis. Review the change before the new arrangement begins.
Can my spouse and children obtain residence too?
Qualifying family members can use the linked IT family route after the principal permit is issued. Family residence does not automatically give an adult spouse the right to work.
Does the IT Residence Permit make my salary tax-free?
No. Immigration residence and employment taxation are separate. Salary taxation depends on the employer and any valid company status; the employee’s citizenship does not itself create a special rate.
Can ITResidency.ge handle both employer and employee steps?
Yes. We can review the role, work-right route, experience and income evidence, prepare the residence file, coordinate translations and follow-up, and plan family and residence-card steps.
